About Maplesden Noakes School
Maplesden Noakes has a school population of just over 1000 students – 900 in the main school and approx 160 students in the sixth form. Each year we admit 180 students into year 7 from local primary schools and are regularly over-subscribed.
All students are recognised as individuals and consequently we offer a broad and diverse curriculum to meet their needs. Sport, drama, music, and art are also strong features of the school and we encourage students to aim to excel in everything they do. A personalised curriculum in key stage 3 ensures a smooth transition from primary school and prepares students to undertake the rigors of examination work in key stage 4. Students start examinations in year 9 and can choose from a range of GCSE and BTEC (vocational) qualifications which they will complete over a three year key stage. Students also have the opportunity to undertake the English Baccalaureate. Opportunities for enrichment activities are also available through our Focus Days which take place throughout the year. These enable students to experience learning in a different context via visits, workshops, seminars and year group activities.
Our Business and Enterprise specialism has had a significant impact on the school. We believe in equipping students with the transferable skills they will need to enter the world of work – communication and numeracy skills; ICT skills, the ability to work independently or in a team; self confidence; problem solving techniques. We believe that these skills coupled with excellent academic qualifications stands our students in good stead for a positive future beyond school.
We encourage students to stay in Post 16 education and enter our sixth form where we offer a broad range of A levels and Vocational qualifications. We have designated sixth form facilities and encourage sixth form students to support younger students in the school in a range of activities – sport, mentoring, academic support. We also have links with other secondary schools in Maidstone to ensure students have a diverse and enriched curriculum post 16.
Our pastoral structure is another strong feature of the school. On entry students are placed with a tutor who deals with the student on a day to day basis, and is the first port of call for parents. We also have Heads of Year and Student Managers who oversee the academic and social welfare of the students in their year groups and liaise with parents when necessary. Prefects from year 10 and our sixth form students take an active role in helping and supporting younger students.
