Governing Body

Richard Owen: Headteacher

Richard is Headteacher and joined the governing body as a governor in September 2016. Previously, as Deputy Headteacher, Richard attended full governing body meetings as well as strategy and finance committee meetings. He will continue to do this as part of his role as governor and Headteacher.

Tony Hedges:
Chair of Governors and Partnership Governor

Tony joined the governing body initially as a Parent Governor some 20 years ago, when his daughter was a student at Maplesden Noakes.  Over recent years he has been the Vice Chair of governors. He was elected as Chair of Governors in February 2024.  Tony is a member of the Strategy, Finance and Leadership & Management Monitoring Teams.  He is also the school Health and Safety governor and has recently taken on the role of Safeguarding Governor. Tony has been actively involved in the Year 12 Business Challenge since it started in 2006.

Tony has undertaken race equality training which was run by the Inclusion Support Service Kent.

Julia Batt: Co-opted Governor

Julia originally joined the governing body as a Parent Governor and has since been elected as a co-opted governor. Julia has undertaken race equality training which was run by the Inclusion Support Service, Kent. Julia currently sits on the Finance, Behaviour & Attitudes monitoring teams.

Lauren Mason: Parent Governor and Co-Vice Chair of Governors

Lauren joined the governing body as a Parent Governor in November 2021. She is currently a member of the Behaviour & Attitudes and Personal Development monitoring teams. Lauren has a child currently attending Maplesden and as a result applied to be a Parent Governor to increase her ties with the local community and make a positive contribution to the success of the school going forward. Lauren currently works as a Digital Media Investigator specialising in CCTV and mobile phone data retrieval/analysis, she has previously worked for the Disclosure and Barring service and in various Safeguarding roles.

Jill Hogan: Co-opted Governor

Jill joined the governing body as a co-opted Governor in December 2021, and is currently a member of the Strategy team and the leadership and management monitoring team. Jill is a senior brand, communications and engagement consultant who runs her own business in Maidstone. She was vice chair of governors at Brunswick House Primary for six years with a varied portfolio including leadership and management and community engagement. Before that she was Chair of the BBC’s Audience Council South East, a member of BBC Audience Council England, and a board director of the South East London Chamber of Commerce. Jill has two children at Maplesden.

Hugh Blackwood: Partnership Governor

Hugh initially worked with the school as an Associate Governor, focussing on diversity, inclusivity and culture, areas which he is passionate about. In December 2022 Hugh was elected as a Partnership Governor at the school. Hugh has worked in secondary education for over twenty years and is currently Creative Arts Lead at Five Acre Wood School. He has been a Teacher-Governor at a previous school for five years, is a trustee of a nonverbal physical theatre company, Open Theatre and is on the steering committee for both the national Drama and Theatre Alliance and the Cultural Learning Alliance.

Hugh has undertaken extensive safeguarding and Prevent training. As an experienced middle leader, he has undertaken leadership, management and strategic planning training. 

Hugh is currenttly a mmber of the Quality of Education and Personal Development monitoring teams.

Theresa Swift: Parent Governor and Co-Vice Chair of Governors

Theresa was elected as a Parent Governor in January 2023. Previously a Beaver Scout Leader and now an Assistant Cub Leader for 1st Aylesford, she is committed and passionate about creating an environment that puts the wellbeing and development of children at the forefront.

Theresa has a vast experience in sales, marketing, event management, business strategy, volunteering and fundraising. She is currently employed as a Business Development Manager.

Theresa is currently a member of the Leadership & Management and Quality of Education monitoring teams.

Ayisha Mills: Staff Governor

Ayisha was elected onto the governing body in October 2022.

Ayisha has worked at the school as a Teacher of English since June 2019 and has an additional responsibility as Diversity Champion – Curriculum.

REPORTING SALARIES OF HIGH PAID STAFF

All Academies are required to publish annually on their websites the number of individuals (if any) earning over £100k a year. This information is required to be published in bands of £10k.

At 01/09/2023 1 member of staff at the school earns between £120-130k per annum.
