Year 11 Mock Employer Interview Focus Day
19th December 2018
On Thursday 13th December, with the help of our local Employers below and The Department for Work and Pensions our Year 11 students experienced for many, their first interview.
Along with our guest speakers on Wednesday 12th December who included, Gary Clark, CEO Golding Homes and Nicola Cormack, Senior HC Advisor and Sarah Howard-Cofield, HC Manager Recruitment & Early Talent from Laing O’Rourke, our Year 11 students were taken off timetable to participate in a preparation day. Each student generated their own CV in order to apply for a mock vacancy, after having undertook workshops in Employability Skills, Interview Skills and a Digital Footprint Session.
Without the help and support of our local Employers, we would not be able to run such events, which the students benefit from tremendously. Just being given the opportunity to learn to sell themselves and to experience an interview within the safe environment of school helps boost their confidence and their ability to learn effective communication skills, a must for their next steps in life.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those involved in helping to run a successful day and for your kind comments below shared about our Year 11 students, we are very proud to have such conscientious, upstanding students attend Maplesden.
“The students were all very prepared and were a joy to sit and listen to. They were all well presented and a few would have been great candidates in my office”
“I have worked at a number of events like these and comparatively speaking today’s event and students were really impressive”
“The students performed well today. Despite some nerves overall they came across well. They are not used to selling themselves and promoting their skills which is why this event is so important. To have the opportunity to meet with and be interviewed by employers will help boost the students success. Thank you for letting me be part of it”
“Overall I am very impressed with the students I have interviewed today. Not only were they confident, they seemed genuinely interested in the interview process and in the feedback they received. It was a pleasure to attend the day and help enhance the students employability skill set”
