FAQs

How do I apply?

You will need to complete an online application through the Kent Choices site.

Please refer to Kent Prospectus

Meetings to discuss your option choices are due to take place between 28th Feb - 4th March 2021 at Maplesden school. Due to Covid-19 we may need to review this but will keep you informed either through messaging you via Kent Choices or the parents email address you submit on your application.

If you are unable to supply accurate predicted grades at this stage, please don’t worry. We will ask you to bring your latest school report in person when we meet in the New Year.

How many courses do I need to choose?

A minimum of 3 courses and a maximum of 4.

Do you have blocks when choosing subjects?

No blocks are used for our courses so you can choose any combination of subjects. We recommend that students choose courses that play to their strengths and demonstrate a range of skills.

However, please note that lessons will be scheduled to accommodate the most common combination of student subject preferences. This means that we cannot guarantee you will definitely be able to access all your chosen course preferences. If this is the case, we will contact you in May to inform you of a subject clash and you will have the option to select a new subject preference.

We will of course do our best to reduce the number of subject clashes as much as we can, but avoiding any clash whatsoever is not possible.

What is the structure of the school day?

This will completely depend on student's individual timetables. Every timetable is different based on the subjects they have chosen.

What can I do in my free periods?

We encourage students to use their time wisely and complete independent school work during free periods. Under normal circumstances, students have the freedom and independence to manage their time as they choose which includes leaving the school site if they wish (you must sign out). If a student is falling behind or significantly underachieving some of these freedoms may be reviewed.

What are the timings of the school day?

School times are from 8:30am - 2:10pm and 09:00am - 15:10pm Tues-Friday.

Where can I go at Lunch/Break

Students have their own designated Sixth Form Café, however they are free to leave the premises during their Lunch and Break times but they must sign in and out.

Do Sixth Formers wear ID Badges?

Students are given an ID badge that must be visibly worn at all times and this will be used to sign in and out of the school.

Are Mobile Phones allowed in Sixth Form?

Mobiles phones are allowed only in Sixth Form designated areas. They are not to be used walking around the school or in lessons unless asked to do so by the teacher.
