Governing Body

Richard Owen: Headteacher

Richard is Headteacher and joined the governing body as a governor in September 2016. Previously, as Deputy Headteacher, Richard attended full governing body meetings as well as strategy and finance committee meetings. He will continue to do this as part of his role as governor and Headteacher.

Lauren Mason: Co-Chair of Governors and 
Parent Governor

Lauren joined the governing body as a Parent Governor in November 2021. She is currently a member of the Behaviour & Attitudes and Personal Development monitoring teams. Lauren has a child currently attending Maplesden and as a result applied to be a Parent Governor to increase her ties with the local community and make a positive contribution to the success of the school going forward. Lauren currently works as a Digital Media Investigator specialising in CCTV and mobile phone data retrieval/analysis, she has previously worked for the Disclosure and Barring service and in various Safeguarding roles.

Jill Hogan: Vice Chair of Governors and Co-opted Governor

Jill joined the governing body as a co-opted Governor in December 2021, and is currently a member of the Strategy team and the leadership and management monitoring team. Jill is a senior brand, communications and engagement consultant who runs her own business in Maidstone. She was vice chair of governors at Brunswick House Primary for six years with a varied portfolio including leadership and management and community engagement. Before that she was Chair of the BBC’s Audience Council South East, a member of BBC Audience Council England, and a board director of the South East London Chamber of Commerce. Jill has two children at Maplesden.

Theresa Swift: Co-Chair of Governors and Parent Governor

Theresa was elected as a Parent Governor in January 2023. Previously a Beaver Scout Leader and now an Assistant Cub Leader for 1st Aylesford, she is committed and passionate about creating an environment that puts the wellbeing and development of children at the forefront.

Ayisha Mills: Staff Governor

Ayisha was elected onto the governing body in October 2022.

Ayisha has worked at the school as a Teacher of English since June 2019 and has an additional responsibility as Diversity Champion – Curriculum.

Ian Bagnall
Appointed by Members

Ian qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1990, since when he has worked in various roles within the food industry. Now recently retired, Ian has 5 children, one of whom recently commenced her school life at Maplesden, with one more to follow in a couple of years. Ian is a member of the Finance and Quality of Education monitoring teams.

Gayle Barker
Appointed by Members

Gayle has worked in education for ten years, working in support roles in both mainstream and SEND schools.  Gayle currently works in a Maidstone mainstream school teaching a class of students who benefit from a smaller more nurturing environment to help overcome barriers to learning. In September 2024 Gayle will be completing teaching training at Bower Grove SEMH school.  Gayle has previously been a Brownies leader, foster carer and has run her own childminding business. Gayle is currently a Neighbourhood watch co-ordinator for her area.

Helen Bradley-Wyatt

Helen is currently a primary school headteacher in Maidstone and has been for the past 7 years. Helen has completed the NPQSL and the NPQH. As well as being head, Helen is also Designated Safeguard Lead and mentor to Early Careers Teachers. Helen continues to teach at least 1 day a week. Her daughter has recently finished her A-Level studies at Maplesden Noakes.

Graham Kinns

Graham has worked in financial services for over 20 years and is now a chartered independent financial advisor in the local area. Graham has previous volunteering experience with the Royal British Legion Industries in Aylesford, helping with their lifeworks events.
